Hypotenusia
Come, butterfly
It’s late-
We’ve miles to go together.
— Matsuo Basho

This week’s Festivities were postponed a few days, due to D’s return from an adventure down south, and the arrival of visitors from the east, namely KZ and PZ, who had embarked on a holy pilgrimage from the Atlantic coast to these high hinterlands, seeking to earn the honorary title of Intrepid Explorer. And so it was our fearless foursome set out to explore (in a most intrepid fashion), the fabled and now legendary Hypotenuse of Davidson Mesa.

The Mesa, being adjacent to a dog park, was understandably awash in dogs, albeit of the prairie variety; that is to say, the venerable prairie dog, Cynomys socialis. Also observed: a solitary hawk, some star lilies, random prairie grasses, and various burnt and unburnt yucca.

A balmy 70-sh degree day, with a mild breeze and pleasant conversation. Our fearless adventurers wended southwest, south, west, south, west, and south again, before finally reaching the aforementioned Hypotenuse, and returning thereby to the trailhead.

Be it known that our esteemed visitors PZ and KZ are hereby granted the title of Intrepid Explorer, with all the rights and privileges associated thereto. Huzzah!
