North and South

Wednesday, September 26, 2018 – Foothills North Trail

Phase 1: Last week, we explored the Foothills South Trail from the trailhead on Lee Hill Road, so this week our fearless adventurers went the opposite direction, up the Foothills North Trail. Whereas the south trail is generally smooth and flat, the north trail ascends the hogback, with plenty of large rocks on the trail. The trail loops to the top of the ridge and back, but we turned around at a dry stock tank, halfway up the hill, to reach the car before dark.

Phase 2: Squared Pizza + Beer, formerly Boulder Beer, formerly Walnut Brewery. Detroit-styled pizza (as opposed to Chicago style, New York style, etc.). Pretty good place.

Phase 3: Boulder Baked. French-press coffee (posh, but in paper cups), ice cream, cookies, kids saying “dude,” “whoa,” and “whoa!”

Questions of the Night:

  • What does “Detroit” mean?

  • How did Lyons, Colorado, get its name?

  • What does Zillow say about the homes in Dakota Ridge?
