The Undiscovered Country

Wednesday, October 16, 2019 — Boulder Open Space

Phase 1: Open Space

S and D headed south into the wilds of Boulder County open space, and discovered nothing but prairie dog mounds and scrubby brush-land, filled with strangely cropped bush stems that threatened to impale our legs and twist our ankles. Fortunately we avoided any mishaps as we wandered to and fro, curiously examining the prairie dog trails that traversed from hole to hole.

As we returned to the car, a kindly fellow hiker stopped her car en passant, and asked whether we had found any seashells.

Phase 2: Murphy’s, South Boulder

Sitting outside on one of the final warm evenings of the year. Notably, they no longer serve Stella Artois; hence the establishment has dropped a few points in our registry of eateries.

Phase 3: Sweet Cow.

Questions of the Night

  1. Where were we hiking?
Boulder County Open Space. We could find no additional information about that particular parcel east of Cherryvale.

  2. What is the difference between fresh ground pepper and canned pepper?
Canned pepper has had time to oxidize and lose some flavor.

  3. Is salt mined from salt mines edible?
Halite, or rock salt, usually contains impurities that make it inedible.
