80 Degrees

Wednesday, May 15, 2019 — Boulder Valley Ranch

Phase 1: Special guests S2 & T joined C, D2, D, and S for a jaunt around Boulder Valley Ranch, ostensibly to scout the grazing venues for our once and future equine companions. After the last few weeks of rain and snow, the evening’s eighty degrees felt a tad too warm; thankfully, these cloudy skies cast welcome shade over the various hikers, cyclists, dog-walkers, horses, cattle, songbirds, coyotes, and larval fireflies who wandered the prairie paths of Humpday.

Back at the trailhead, a guy in a van had set up 6-8 telescopes in a semicircle of camp chairs. He gave us some cards and stickers (good for $5 off any “Astrotour”).

Phase 2: S2 retired for the evening, and the remainder ensconced themselves in their usual booth at The Hungry Toad; breaking with recent trends, no one ordered a club sandwich. Only the cheery clinks of Stella, Guinness, and Hen kept tradition alive.

Phase 3: A pleasantly depopulated Trident Cafe, with at least four unoccupied tables. No one played backgammon or chess, no one bellowed about real estate. In this air of relative calm, the group commenced “researching” (i.e., googling) the topics of the trail:
