Dowdy Afternoon

Phase 1: Dowdy Draw

I looked out the window this afternoon and noticed low clouds and haze over the Flatirons, so I decided to check it out. I’d been thinking about the Mesa Trail, so off I went, to its southern terminus at Eldorado Springs. Although the sun was still reasonably high at 3:00pm, the Eldo trails were already in shade. I decided to postpone the Mesa Trail, and drove instead across the street to Dowdy Draw: its parking lot had fewer cars (always a good thing these days).

30°F, no wind. About 250’ elevation gain, 2.1 miles.

Phase 2: Car

Après hike, a Lärabar Lemon Bar and coffee. Also water. Soggy facemask on the passenger seat. Fog misting the car windows. Damp, cold gloves. Evening falling, color gone from the sky.

The lemon bar was lemony, but wrong with coffee. Better tea with lemon, coffee with chocolate. Live and learn.
