St. Nicholas Day Hill

6 December 2023 NCAR S wandered up to Boulder this balmy 60-degree afternoon to walk up the NCAR hill and see what he could find. Well, long story short, he found a tornado, some deer, and a salad.

The shady parts of the trail were somewhat icy, somewhat slightly muddy; so, walk carefully, ye weary travelers.

At the top of the hill, NCAR sat regally as usual, basking in the warm sun. And, lo and behold, it was open to visitors. It being a weekday, and all. A tour was happening, and the demonstration experiments were front and center; for example, the vortex tornado device, always a popular contraption.

S discovered that the cafeteria was also open, and seeing it was just past noon, headed in for a salad and yogurt. The outside deck was practically empty and afforded a good view south, despite the not-terrific ambience of a power generator humming along nearby.

Afterwards, what the heck, might as well walk a bit more, up the trail to the infamous “Great Green Water Tower” which is now covered with graffiti. Why.

Then back down the fire road to the main NCAR road, and back to the car.

Not a bad day, all in all.
