Phase 1: Walnut Creek Loop

Our mildly trepidatious adventurers strapped on their wrist-mounted Geiger counters and donned their demron hazmat suits to visit the idyllically-named Walnut Creek Loop Trail at the Rocky Flats Wildlife Refuge. Formerly the site of a nuclear weapons factory, and subsequently a toxic superfund site, the area opened in 2018 (amid much controversy) to hikers and cyclists.

A short walk, 1.4 miles, on very flat terrain. Looks like a good trail for cyclists.

Meanwhile, smoke from the East Troublesome Fire (near Granby, on the Western slope) billowed apocalyptically over the mountains.

Phase 2, 3: In Situ

Sandwiches and beverages, and homemade cookies courtesy of C. D committed to inviting BC next week, and S might invite MS to help with dessert.
