Here and There

Phase 1: Oerman-Roche Trail

The thistle lurched skyward and the sun plunged toward the cloudy mountain west as our dauntless duo trundled up the O-R Trail. A dozen cyclists zipped past, generally passing with plenty of space; some even offered pleasantries, like “Have a nice walk,” or “Have a good day.” Our intrepid explorers responded with their usual dour expressions and churlish grunts, thereby maintaining balance in the force.

Phase 2: Oerman-Roche Trailhead

Back at the trailhead, our fearless foragers had 10 minutes to spare before the start of P3, so they snarfed their sandwiches and dug out their phones.

Phase 3: Zoom

C, D2, and C*D2++ (aka C3) joined S and D for a virtual P3, celebrating sunset here and there. We pointed the phones hither and yon, and walked around for a tour of the trailhead. What a sight to behold.

Meanwhile, coffee and tea, crumpets and questions.

Question of the Night

  1. What is the origin of the phrase “Have a nice day.” And what did people say to each other before that? (Probably something Latin, like, “Urrrghgh!!”)
