Some Bobolink

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence.
— Max Ehrmann, Desiderata

3 Jan 2024 Bobolink Trail S and D met at the Bobolink Trail for a weekly walk through the dry and brittle marsh. It was late afternoon, and although the days are slightly longer, there was just enough time for a short wander before sunset.

Herds of joggers galavanted past, all with very serious “New Year’s Resolution” expressions. Meanwhile our intrepid explorers made no specific resolutions, nor discussed them; only thus:

  • Continue walking here and there;

  • Scowl and guffaw now and then;

  • Note but tolerate the presence of harridans, harriers, and harpies;

  • Collect a few more homophones.

The sun slipped behind the hills, and a klatch of coyotes, camouflaged in the tall dry grass, commenced a chorus about their resolutions. One might surmise the following:

  • Walk softly and carry a big stick.

  • Eat more fiber.

  • Listen twice, speak once.

  • Leave no trace.

Not much else to report. A cyclist or two. Some dog walkers. And another successful BNO.
